EVENTS WITH ORGANIZERS VS. EVENTS WITHOUT ORGANIZERS
Corporate events are meant to be polished, professional, and memorable. As someone who has performed at countless corporate gatherings over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how the presence (or absence) of an events organizer can make or break an occasion. I recently had the misfortune of being part of an event that didn’t hire an events organizer, and let me tell you, it was an unforgettable experience, but for all the wrong reasons.
The event started on the wrong foot even before I arrived. The organizing committee called me frantically on the day of the event, mistaking me for one of the caterers! Imagine their shock when I explained that I was the mentalist they had booked. It became painfully clear that they had no idea who their suppliers were or even what services they had hired.
When I arrived, things only got worse. The event started much later than scheduled because the program wasn’t finalized. People were running around in disarray, trying to piece things together on the fly. There was no clear chain of command, and every minor hiccup turned into a full-blown crisis. The stress in the air was palpable.
As a performer, I’ve learned to adapt to different situations, but this event really tested my patience. The organizing committee’s lack of respect for performers was glaring. They placed me and my fellow entertainers in a cramped, makeshift room that barely qualified as a waiting area. There were no chairs, no air conditioning, just a stifling, uncomfortable space that made us feel like an afterthought. It was a stark contrast to the professional setups I’ve experienced at events with a skilled organizer at the helm. And we were at a hotel.
Performing in such conditions is not just physically uncomfortable; it’s also demoralizing. Performers are there to add value to your event, to entertain your guests, and to make your occasion memorable. Treating them poorly reflects badly on the entire event.
On the flip side, I’ve had the privilege of working with exceptional events organizers who made sure everything ran like clockwork. They ensured that all suppliers were properly coordinated, schedules were followed, and performers were treated with the respect and care they deserve. The difference is night and day.
If there’s one takeaway from this experience, it’s this: hiring a professional events organizer is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. They bring expertise, structure, and efficiency to the table, ensuring that your event is not only successful but also enjoyable for everyone involved like guests, suppliers, and performers alike. Trust me, cutting corners by skipping an events organizer is a decision you’ll likely regret.
So, if you’re planning an event, do yourself (and everyone else) a favor: hire a professional. It’s an investment that pays off in a smoother, more memorable event—one that people will talk about for all the right reasons.
